About Make Works Derby & Derbyshire

About

Make Works Derby and Derbyshire is routed in co-production which is key to the development of the programme for the Museum of Making at Derby Silk Mill. We have been working with professional film-maker Andy Taylor-Smith to deliver a training programme to film and photography students from University of Derby and Derby College. The training sessions focus on both technical skills development and working in live environments, to also gaining skills in adaptability, communication styles and teamwork. We feel strongly that the framework of Make Works is ideal for aiding students in translating their skills into real life experience.

Team

Derby Museums

Make Works Derby and Derbyshire is co-ordinated by Derby Museums as part of the delivery of the Museum of Making. Our listings will also serve as interpretation in the new museum when it opens in September 2020 to represent contemporary making and manufacturing in our region.

Andy Taylor-Smith

Professional film-maker Andy works as a mentor for our volunteers in film, photography and post-production, co-developing and delivering our training programme at Derby Museum and Art Gallery.

University of Derby Film-Makers

We work with 2-4 film-makers who participate in a training programme, and then undertake filming on our site visits. We also host post-production sessions to edit the material which volunteers participate in.

Derby College Photographers

Similarly to with our film students we run a training programme with volunteer photographers in skills development working to a client brief. This involves participating in filming visits and post-production.
