Jane Orton Jewellery Maker

In 1996 Jane started Silver Smithing in Derby. She later studied at the Birmingham School of Jewellery in the famous Jewellery Quarter to perfect her skills and work collaboratively with other makers. She still visits this famous manufacturing region for inspiration and to purchase materials when she cannot find them in her rural Derbyshire surroundings. Texture and the environment she is surrounded by has always been at the centre of Jane's practice, and is what makes it personal and unique to her. She is also driven by a desire to not let traditional techniques, such as polishing and finishing, disappear. She believes they are just as important today as ever.
