Production Specifics
This is a small scale papermaking workshop. Small runs of paper can be produced to commission, however, it is not a production mill for high volumes of paper, card or board. Technical assistance and supported use of specialist equipment can be hired for artists and makers wishing to explore paper or paper fibre in their work. There are a wide variety of fibres that can be used in paper maker such as items of clothing or plants. Processes that be utilised include paper casting, layering of pulps, inclusions of drawings, watermarks or bookbinding. Note that making handmade sheets of paper takes time and is a labour intensive process. Collaborators may need to think about the paper's function and end purpose beforehand. Commissions are undertaken within an agreed timescale. Papermaking workshops are also offered.

Company History
PULP was first set up in 2005 in the west end of Glasgow, by Alison Newman. In 2012 this moved to WASPS Hanson Street. The organisation began having been involved with Papermaking and Bookbinding at Glasgow School of Art both as a student and later in a technical / tutoring role, Alison felt the need to have a well equipped studio to work from. Papermaking had become the focus of my art practice and tutoring, so when the opportunity arose to purchase redundant equipment, I established PULP as an independent and dedicated space for Papermaking. The larger workshop allows an opportunity to develop artist residencies, volunteer placements and partnerships with other organisations and progress is being made to establish PULP as a formally constituted social enterprise.
