Company History

Johnstons of Elgin was established in 1797 by Alexander Johnston on the banks of the River Lossie. Running for over 200 years, the company still focus on sourcing high quality raw fibres to make into yarn for both their knitted and woven products. Expanding from wovens into knitwear in the 1970’s the company opened a second factory in Hawick and the two continue to work in tangent with each other. In 1997 the Elgin mill experienced a flood which destroyed much of the machinery and factory space, but has since invested in new equipment and repaired the damage.
