Company History
Skyeskyns, manufacturers and suppliers of finest quality sheepskins, is a family business established on the Isle of Skye in 1983. Initially the team Clive and Lydia Hartwell were teaching off the island, working on site during school holidays. Both trained in leather technology at Northampton Leather Sellers Centre. Since then, six tanners have wielded the fleshing knife: Jean-Paul Mills, Fiona Johnstone, Jessica Hartwell and for the last 6 years, Pete Winterbourne. All six have kept this trade alive in Waternish, in what is now the only commercial sheepskin tannery left in Scotland.
